Information Technology Department
Overview
The main objective of the Information Technology Department is to offer an opportunity for students to develop a career in Computer Science and information systems fields. Through a combination of courses and a final degree project, the Program is designed to prepare students to assume positions in both governmental and private sectors, computer industry, and education. It also offers them opportunities to pursue a higher degree in both disciplines.
Not only is the proposed programs anticipated to reflect positively on the careers of students, but it is also expected to turn Al Buraimi College into a leading institution in addressing the demands of IT specialists in a developing country such as the Sultanate of Oman.
The choice of courses on offer by Al Buraimi College is a subset of courses offered by California State University in Northridge USA. This choice draws from the degree courses in Computer Science and Information Technology.
The detailed objectives of the course are as follows.
1. To provide students with a systematic understanding of the principles and technologies which underpin the discipline of computer science.
2. To give students practical skills in central areas of computing, such that graduates will be able to find productive employment in the computing and computer-related industries.
3. To give students sufficient experience of every stage in the software life cycle to enable them on entering employment to be able to join productively in any stage of the life cycle with a minimum of specialized training.
4. To provide students with the skills needed to operate effectively within a professional environment, and make students aware of professional issues that might arise in such an environment.
5. To give students the ability to assimilate new technologies quickly, as further training will be necessary throughout an individual's working life.
