ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION
|
|
|
This program develops students understanding of the scientific and professional aspects of translation. Translation program equips graduates with high proficiency levels in oral, written, and communicative language skills. It provides efficient graduate translators and interpreters. Graduate translators provide communicative interpretation of and for the world nations’ cultures, business markets, and politics. Professional translators and interpreters are in great demand, nationally as well as internationally. Our graduates find jobs as public service interpreters and translators in health, education, law firms, private firms, internal & foreign affairs, international relations, international commerce and industry, diplomatic missions, and international organizations.

Mission:
The program aims at helping the students to master the intellectual and scientific aspects of translation as a new field of study. It intends to prepare the graduates to become bilingual translators and interpreters to meet the needs of Oman society and the work market for such professional’s .This complies well with the great role that Oman plays in the international relations and cultural interactions.
|
Goals:
1- Preparing students to meet the requirements of the work market in the field of translation.
2- Providing students with linguistic skills that enable them to take over translation as a profession efficiently
3- Helping students to develop their intellectual abilities to encounter job responsibilities effectively.
4- Familiarizing students with the principles, beliefs and values of Western culture.
5- Providing the local work market with competent and professional translators in different areas.
6- Providing students with the findings in the field of linguistics and translation studies.
7- Preparing students for postgraduate studies in the fields of linguistics and translation. |
Learning Outcomes:
Students are expected to be able to:
1- Develop the necessary professional skills in the field of translation.
2- Show high linguistic skills that enable them to work competently as translators.
3- Demonstrate great intellectual abilities that enable them to hold responsibilities competently.
4- Show deep understanding of the beliefs, values and principles of Western culture.
5- Demonstrate an informed consensus with different cultural differences that they may encounter.
6- Be aware of the duties that they must carry out in the process of development in Oman.
7- Be aware of the developments in the fields of linguistics and translation.
8- Show competence and ability to complete their higher education in well-reputed institutions.
9- Show great understanding of others who speak different languages to bridge the gaps and minimize the discrepancies with them.
10- Develop new cultural values and concepts to facilitate cross-cultural communication and mutual understanding globally.
11- Demonstrate informed awareness of the similarities and differences between the linguistic systems of Arabic and English. |
